KACC PARTICIPATES IN MATER HEART RUN
KACC Ag. Director/Chief Executive, Dr. J. Mutonyi hands over the cheque to the Chief Executive Officer of Mater Hospital, Dr, J. Muriithi. Assistant Director Mr. W. Shollei looks on
The Mater Heart Run is an annual event organized by the Mater Hospital to raise funds for heart operations for children from underprivileged backgrounds. The event normally raises the funds through direct sponsorship by corporate institutions, staff teams’ participation and / or donations. The Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission has previously supported the event through the participation of a staff team.
This year, the Commission sponsored the 2010 Mater Heart Run to the tune of Kshs. 250,000.00 under the Gold category. The sponsorship was funded through the Public Relations Department’s expenditure item 2210805 on sponsored activities that has a budget of Kshs. 500,000.00. It was the first time that the Commission sponsored such an activity as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
The sponsorship cheque was presented to the Chief Executive Officer of the Mater Hospital, Dr. John Muriithi, at the Integrity Centre on the 6th of May 2010 by Dr. John P. Mutonyi, the Acting Director of the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission in the presence of representatives from both institutions. This year’s event took place on the 15th of May 2010.
Commission registered over 20 members of staff plus their families who all completed this worthy course. The Commission was also able to place in its tent IEC materials which the general public collected and updated themselves on the fight against corruption.
Three members of staff from the Preventive Services Directorate and PR received numerous querries on best practices and how best to fight corruption. Some members of the public were advised to report all incedences of corruption at Integrity Centre or through the various channels available.
Throughout the event, there was frequent mention of the presence of the Commission which attracted a large number of people at the tent.
The Commission will continue to use such events to reach the public and enlist their support in the fight against corruption. It is the duty of every Kenyan to fight corruption in all spheres of life in order to improve on the quality of Life, Health and Kenya as a whole. Posted on Thursday, May 27, 2010
