EAST AFRICAN ASSOCIATION OF ANTI-CORRUPTION AUTHORITIESThe Anti-Corruption Authorities of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania launched the East African Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities on Friday 9th November 2007 at Kenya Integrity Forum in Nairobi, Kenya. The three Authorities, Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, Inspectorate of Government of Uganda and Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau of Tanzania made a milestone achievement within the East African Community by joining forces to fight corruption within the region. The Anti-Corruption agencies of Rwanda and Burundi are expected to join shortly. The Authorities will enhance cooperation in preventing and combating corruption in the region by developing cooperation tools and mechanisms that will promote, facilitate and regulate cooperation among the East African States in the fight against corruption. To assist in extradition of any person charged with or convicted of offences of corruption and other related offences, carried out in the territory of an East African Community Partner State and whose extradition is requested by that Partner. Individuals who commit corruption offences and seek "Safe Haven" in neighboring countries will cease to exist through this cooperation. The Authorities will also accord one another mutual legal assistance regarding detection, investigations, prosecutions, identification, tracing, freezing, seizure, confiscation and repatriation of property, instruments or proceeds obtained or derived from corruption;
